Concert: Treasures of the early baroque

The Musicke in the Ayre ensemble is joining us once again to perform some rare baroque gems for three voices.  Join us in the Chapel for a celebration of music from Ferrara, Florence and Venice, where baroque music had its beginnings around the end of the 16th century. This was where professionally trained female singers first made their mark as singing ladies in the noble courts. Music exploiting more than one beautiful voice was favoured, leading to composers such as Monteverdi, Strozzi, Legrenzi, Luzzaschi and more producing many wonderful duets and even trios for the ladies to sing; this programme gives but a sample of such riches.  Singers Sophia Brumfitt and Melissa Scott with Jane Hunt from Bath, accompanied as ever by founder lutenist/luthier Din Ghani on archlute and baroque guitar of his own making. Tickets £12 on the door. (£11 online in advance)
