OperaUpClose at the Charterhouse: Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda

The Charterhouse is delighted to announce a series of performances by Olivier Award-winning OperaUpClose in April 2019.  The acclaimed opera company brings two ferocious 16th century Queens to the stage, set in the Charterhouse’s glorious Tudor Great Chamber, in their new English version of Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda (Mary, Queen of Scots).  In this version of the historical tragedy the two queens go head-to-head, culminating in a fictitious meeting which sizzles with vocal fireworks. The backdrop of the Great Chamber, where Elizabeth I took refuge on arriving in London before being crowned Queen of England, adds a compelling layer of historic authenticity to the production.

Performances on 24th, 26th, 27th and 29th April 2019.  Tickets £35-£65, (excluding Supporters Night on 26th, tickets £100)
