LFA Architectural Tour

As part of the London Festival of Architecture we are introducing a special new Architecture Tour which we are running twice in June. Join one of our expert guides for the second of these tours and explore the many architectural surprises at the Charterhouse. From medieval monastery to Tudor mansion, postwar renovation to invigorating 21st century adaptation of the Charterhouse buildings and open spaces, comprise a wealth of fascination in the heart of London. Tudor brick juxtaposed against medieval stone, windows and doorways recycled into modern entrances, elegant Victorian functionality and 1950s innovation; every element of these historic buildings breathes a story about the visionaries who have contributed to this remarkable estate, from Henry Yevele to Eric Parry.

Eric Parry RA: Boundaries in time, place and material

We are delighted to host a talk by eminent architect Eric Parry RA, MA (Cantab), MA (RCA), AADipl, RIBA in association with the London Festival of Architecture.  Eric Parry, with his practice, Eric Parry Architects, was commissioned back in 2014 to take on the major HLF-funded project of opening up the Charterhouse to the public for the first time, creating a new entrance, reception, museum and learning centre which complemented the ancient architecture here, and created a compelling and engaging visitor experience.

Exploring this year’s theme of ‘Boundaries’, Eric Parry will focus on the intentions for the ‘Revealing the Charterhouse’ project, both social and architectural. One boundary that will be illustrated, with reference to the Charterhouse and other examples, will be the questions of responding to important historical contexts.

Advance booking recommended.  Tickets £15 (Friends 20% discount) Book here.
