Cloud of Unknowing

We are delighted to be hosting an exhibition of photographs by George Miles capturing the healing and solace to be found in the woods behind Beauvale Priory in Nottinghamshire. The Priory has direct Carthusian connections to the London Charterhouse through the priors John Houghton and Robert Lawrence. The title of this work is taken from the famous text thought to have been written at Beauvale in the 14th century by an unidentified scholar. The book proposes that to approach the infallible one has to surrender oneself entirely, and to Miles this seemed to correspond with the creative process of making art and our relationship with nature.  The exhibition can be seen on all tours, with special free public access on Thursdays & Fridays.
